The Western NIgerian Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun (Ondo state chapter) has disclosed that some of its personnel were attacked by herdsmen on a farm at Osi community, in Akure North Local Government Area.
The attack was launched while the security operatives were trying to settle a rift between the herdsmen and the farmers in the community.
The farmers had made complaints to the agency that their farms were destroyed by cows.
The state Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, told journalists in Akure, the state capital, that in a swift repsonse to the distress call, the officials arrived the scene and found out that the cattle were truly on the farm. In a bid to get a balanced story, the herdsmen were invited but a crisis enssued when the herdsmen drew out swords and other weapons to attack the operatives.
He said, “Some farmers from Osi community ran to our office complaining that their farms had been destroyed by cattle. We sent our men there to assess the situation. They found out that the cattle were actually on the farm and we invited the herdsmen. But on getting there, they attacked our men with knives and other weapons. However, we were able to arrest one of them, Abdulkadir Mohammed.”
Adeleye also disclosed that two suspected cattle rustlers were arrested by his men, while a NISSAN Serena marked, LAGOS FJ 423 KRD, brought by the suspected rustlers to steal cows belonging to one Alhaji Ilyasu, was impounded
He said, “One Alhaji Ilyasu, a Fulani man came to us that some people came with a bus to steal cattle. We were able to seize their bus; we also recovered the cows.
“We were able to trace some of the rustlers that ran away to somewhere in Ogun State. We have apprehended one Sudauna Gombe and one Ogunyale Sola, who was the driver of the abandoned bus. We have handed them over to the Agro Department of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.”
