FilmOne brings back classic movie, Domitila

Remember the popular movie from the 90s, ‘Domitila’, a sequel is officially in the process to be released in 2021

The sequel will be co produced by FilmOne Entertainment, Zeb Ejiro Productions and Omoni Oboli’s Dioni Visions.

It is undoubtedly the season of remakes and sequels of Nollywood classics and the latest on the list of productions is 1996 crime drama ‘Domitila’.

The upcoming feature film will reportedly be directed by Zeb Ejiro and will grace theaters by the first quarter of 2021. Production is however billed to kick-off later on in the year.

Speaking on the upcoming project, FilmOne Entertainment co-founders shared their excitement in a press statement. “We are happy to once again, bring magic to the big screen by producing this breathtaking movie. In ‘Domitila’, we have identified an entertaining and artistic masterpiece that would appeal to different generations of film lovers; and to know we are partnering with great professionals in Zeb Ejiro and Omoni Oboli is soothing. Thus, we look forward to a phenomenal accomplishment”.

Zeb Ejiro who owns directorial credit for the 1996 acclaimed film shared, “When we first made ‘Domitila’, it was a story inspired by societal challenges that have over time, proven to not only be akin to the ’90s, but trans-generational; and so, in recognition of its relevance in these times, we have decided to make a sequel to the story, factoring recent socio-cultural advancements”.

‘Domitila’ sequel creative director, Omoni Oboli also disclosed how pleased she is to be working on a Nollywood classic.

“When I was a teenager, I auditioned for ‘Domitilla’ but I didn’t get any part; perhaps, I was too tiny. Today, I’m proud to be one of the stars, executive producers, producer and creative director of the sequel. It’s going to be a very exciting ride and I can’t wait”, said Oboli.

‘Domitila’ sequel will follow the adventures of a young Domitila who accidentally witnesses the mysterious death of a politician. With law enforcement on her and her friends’ trail, Domitila decides to go to any length to prove her innocence.

The 1996 classic featured stars like Anne Njemanze, Sandra Achums, Kate Henshaw and Enebeli Elebuwa and also influenced the claim to fame of a few of its lead and supporting cast.

Just In: Naira Marley in court over Abuja concert

Nigerian artiste, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, has been taken to the Lagos State Special Offences Court at Ikeja.

As of press time, The PUNCH learnt that the police had filed charges against him for violating the COVID-19 order banning interstate travels earlier put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The ‘Tesumole’ crooner left Lagos for the Federal Capital Territory for a concert on Saturday, July 13.

The concert, which held at the Jabi Lake Mall, drew public outrage.

The government thereafter shut down and mall and stopped the operation of the airline whose plane he chartered.

The Inspector-General of Police was said to have ordered Naira Marley’s arrest.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said Naira Marley presented himself at the command headquarters on Thursday.

“We are in court as we speak. He will be arraigned for violating the interstate travel order. That is the aspect that concerns Lagos State,” he added.

Rising star, Tope Adeoye has revealed that her husband is the brain behind her new movie, SADE IHOHO where she acted half naked.

Adeoye says her role in the movie is the most challenging so far due to her going half naked but with constant encouragement and push from her better half, she was able to deliver , she told The Root Media Celebrity Corner on Friday.

“SHADE IHOHO was a very challenging movie for me because I had to be half naked according to the script. This was hard for me because I have never done anything like that before. It is a true life story so I had to portray the true character of the lady involved. This brought in a lot of criticisms from people. At first it got to me but my husband supported me all the way because he gave me the go ahead to do it.

The movie which is her second work as a producer will be released anytime soon, she disclosed.

The former sportswoman who began as a make-up artiste in the make-believe world spoke extensively on the challenges she encountered at home when she ventured into acting.

Being the only child of her parents, Adeoye’s decision to become an actress caused a rift between her and her mother in which she had to leave the house for 18 months.

According to her, the decision caused a rift between her and her mother but they reconciled after her boss, Femi Adebayo intervened.

“When I decided to go into acting, it was a thug of war between my mum and I. she never wanted me to go into acting. I left the house for 1year and half.

“When I left home, I slept at the rehearsal premises for 3 months. Then, Titi Adebayo (Femi Adebayo’s sister) and my friend, Aishat Lawal heard about it they spoke with my boss, Femi Adebayo and explained everything to him. He took me in and treated me like family, I spent nothing less than 1 year and 3month in his house. Later he took me home to plead with my mum and she accepted me back. When I graduated from the J15 academy, she finally accepted my profession”, she narrated.

Asides Shade Ihoho, Tope Adeoye has produced Ijawa, Eli and others in the pipeline.

Speaking on her role models in the movie industry, Adeoye says “Femi Adebayo is a boss, mentor and role model who has inspired me to be the best in me chosen career. Also, famous Ghanaian actress, Jackie Appiah is another person that I look up to in the industry. I love her acting prowess and how she interprets her roles perfectly.”

Adeoye gave a word of advice to those aspiring to join the industry, she said “Be yourself and try to be creative, Always learn to learn everyday and always be positive, Though, the road may be rough and tough but with creative content and hardwork, you will be noticed.”
