BREAKING: FBI agents in Nigeria to meet Police IG in demanding Abba Kyari’s arrest, extradition

Officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation have met with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba to demand the arrest and extradition of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari to the United States, RootmediaReporters learnt.

According to a top source, four FBI agents met with the IGP on Thursday asking that Nigeria’s celebrated cop, Kyari be taken to the United States for interrogation over his role in the activities of suspected serial internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, more commonly known as Hushpuppi.

The source stated that the agents have returned on Friday (today) to ensure their demands are met, citing the urgency of the case.

He said, “FBI agents met with the IGP yesterday (Thursday) to demand Abba Kyari’s arrest and extradition to the United States citing the urgency of the case. Four FBI agents returned to the IG’s office this morning, they are there asking the IGP to release Kyari for interrogation.”

Meanwhile, as of Thursday night, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, had ordered an internal review of the receipt of allegations and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation against Kyari.

This was contained in a statement issued by the force’s spokesperson, Frank Mba, on its Facebook page on Thursday night.

The force also stated that it is committed to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.

It assured Nigerians to further communicate developments on the case to members of the public.

The statement read, “Sequel to the receipt of allegations and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against one of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc (+), NPM, fdc has ordered an internal review of the allegations.

“The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.

“Further developments on this case will be communicated to members of the public accordingly.”

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the United States’ Court had issued a warrant of arrest for Kyari, over his role in Hushpuppi’s multi-million naira fraud probe.

Otis Wright of the United States District Court for the Central District of California ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to track down Kyari and produce him in the United States for his role in a multi-million dollar fraud.

Abbas was arrested in Dubai last June and he pleaded guilty to fraud in the U.S. this week.

The FBI said Abbas and Kyari have been friends and were both involved in a conspiracy to launder money.

American prosecutors first sought a court warrant to arrest Kyari on February 12, 2021.

Another warrant was requested on April 29, 2021.

Judge Wright’s permission for the FBI to arrest Mr Kyari and hold him in U.S. custody was unsealed on July 26.

Hushpuppi had narrated how he bribed Kyari to have one of his rivals arrested and jailed in Nigeria following a dispute over a $1.1 million dupe of a Qatari businessperson.

Abbas had asked Kyari to arrest and jail a fellow fraudster Kelly Chibuzor Vincent after both were locked in a dispute presumably over how to share the $1.1 million loot received from the Qatari businessperson.

Abbas had pleaded guilty to a multi-million fraud earlier this month and faces up to 20 years in jail.

He will be sentenced in the coming weeks and will forfeit some of his assets and his rights to appeal while also paying restitution to victims of his years-long fraud.

Kyari in a statement on Facebook has, however, dismissed the allegations of bribe

Husband posts wife’s pictures on Pornhub before burning her to death

A controlling husband, Damion Simmons, 45, who didn’t want his wife to see her friends, poured liters of petrol over her before setting her on fire at her home in Brent, north-west London, on April 16, 2020.

The incident occurred in the UK, with the victim, 36-year-old Denise Keane-Simmons, found on her bedroom floor in Alric Avenue with extensive burns and smoke inhalation, and was pronounced dead in hospital.

Police say they attended the property 40 minutes before he carried out the ‘calculated’ killing as the victim had reported threatening messages from her estranged husband that said he had put pictures of her on PornHub.

She also reported discovering he had hidden a camera in a lightbulb in her bedroom.

In a statement to police officers she called over on the night of her murder, Mrs Keane-Simmons, who worked as a teaching assistant, said: ‘I feel anxious about leaving my house as his behaviour is so unpredictable and just want to live my life without that worry of Damion.’

But less than an hour after the police left, Simmons burnt down the house.

The couple had met in Trinidad where they married in February 2019, and Simmons then relocated to the UK to move in with his wife.

But their relationship became strained because he wanted Mrs Keane-Simmons to change her behaviour and stop seeing friends.

Hours before the murder, the man posted an intimate picture of her on Instagram along with her maiden name, job and the school where she worked.

In a WhatsApp voice message he then sent to his ex-wife, he said: ‘I hope you suffer and die just like how I suffer and die before I go. I really hope you suffer and die.’

On the same night of her death, CCTV captured Simmons buying five and a half litres of fuel from a nearby petrol station.

Further CCTV footage showed him pouring petrol through the letterbox of the victim’s address and smashing a window to get inside, with the fire igniting 30 seconds later.

Simmons, was convicted of murder and arson with intent to endanger life at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, September 1.

The defendant denied murder, claiming he had not intended to harm Mrs Keane-Simmons but that she had died accidentally when he was trying to kill himself in front of her.

He later admitted making a series of internet searches, including Crown Prosecution Service guidance on defences in law for murder and ‘best way to use a knife and kill someone’, but said he had no intention of doing that.

He said all these despite jurors being told at the beginning of the trial that he had admitted manslaughter.

He had previously pleaded guilty to disclosing private and sexual photographs with intent to cause distress.

Detective chief inspector Neil John said after the verdict that the defendant’s behaviour ‘epitomises extreme domestic violence’.

‘My thoughts remain with Denise’s family and friends and I hope today’s outcome can offer them some degree of comfort, knowing that her killer has been brought to justice.

‘Denise was clearly loved by all, and this tragic incident has affected many people far and wide.

‘The actions of Damion Simmons that night were calculated, and the jury have come to the conclusion that he set out that night not to kill himself, as he claimed, but to kill Denise.

‘His actions were both selfish and reckless. He cruelly took away Denise’s future and could have easily caused serious harm to the other woman inside the property and adjoining households.’

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, including other political and eminent Nigerians have lauded Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for remodelling the Lekan Salami Stadium Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Atiku, who unveiled the plaque at about 6:15pm, on Wednesday, described the opening of the remodelled complex as a well directed effort.

Among the dignitaries at the event were Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; Godwin Obaseki of Edo, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja; Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly; Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, Segun Odegbami and other ex-internationals.

Former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, an APC chieftain in the state, lauded Makinde for the initiative and advised that the maintenance of the remodelled complex should be given priority.

“If I am to give any advice, I will just say they should permanently give this facility to someone to maintain. Our maintenance culture is very poor.

“So, for it not to deteriorate and get out of hand again, we have to engage somebody who will continually maintain it,” the former governor said.

Alao-Akala, who said that he was at the event as an elder statesman, explained that he owed the state the duty of involving in its development and progress.

Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, who represented the Oyo Central Senatorial District in the senate, noted, “We will have footballers and teams coming from different countries for international matches in Ibadan.”

Residents and sports enthusiasts in the 33 local government council areas of the state and beyond thronged Adamasingba in their thousands on Wednesday.

The crowd of people defied heavy downpour in the evening in a bid to catch a glimpse of the inauguration of the stadium.

An international friendly match was played between the Shooting Stars Sports Club, also known as Oluyole Warriors, and the NK Tabor Sezana, a Slovenian League side.

The match ended 4-0 in favour of the host, Oluyole Warriors.
The project of Lekan Salami Stadium Complex began in 1976 during the administration of Gen. David Jemibewon (retd.), as Military Governor.
